Keylong or Keylang is a small town located on bank of Bhaga river 80 km away from Manali in Lahaul valley, of Himachal Pradesh.Keylong is the administrative centre of the Lahaul and Spiti district 126 km north of Manali and 120 km from the Indo-Tibetan border.
The valley, snow covered peaks, green grasslands, Tiny houses on other side of river make is picture perfect in all ways. Travelling by road side running along with bank of river is a dream journey for many tourists. The area look is white in winter season but in summer it's all green and colourful. Keylong is the main town for connectivity in this region. There are two bus stands in Keylong, Old and New. Local transportation is available to Manali & Leh.
Farming and tourism is the main occupation of Local people. Keylong remain open between June to October, and later it close down for rest of the year. Life in winter is very tuff in Keylong and around including Darcha, Jispa, Sisu, and Tandi. People who do business at Keylong will go out of Keylong and return again once road open in summer. Helicopters are used by administration in emergency situations. The highest pass is Baracha la pass which is 78 km from Keylong.
Keylong to Sarchu is 108 km.
Keylong to Leh is 355 km.
Keylong to Manali is 116 km.
How to Reach: Its open from June to October and close rest of the year.
Where to stay: There are lot of hotels and guest houses are available in Keylong and nearby. Camps are also available near the bank of river creating more options for tourist.
There are two ways to reach Keylong
One is from Manali via Rohtang pass and other is from Leh Ladakh via Baralacha pass.
In coming time there will be another route from kargil side. BRO is making another highway which will connect Darcha to kargil. From Darcha Keylong can be reached.
Weather: In summers days are warm and cold but nights are cold. In winters the place is extremely cold due to snowfall.
Best time to visit: It open in month of June and close down in last week of October.
ATM: There is ATM facility available in main market. This the last option for ATM if you are travelling toward Leh or Manali.
Net connectivity: There is good signal connectivity and internet is also available. The BSNL & post-paid work in the area. Again, the last place you can make call if you are going toward Leh on Manali - Leh Highway.
