Kye monastery (Kye Gompa or Ki and Kee Monastery) is the largest in the valley and a powerful rock over the most populous part of the valley around Kaza.  Key Monastery is one of the must-visit places in Himachal Pradesh. The brilliant Key The monastery is believed to have been formed by Dromtön (Brom-ston, 1008-1064 CE) a famous teacher of the 11th century. Key monastery is surrounded by beautiful Himalayas and glaciers monastery is visited by thousands tourists from all over the world every year who come here for calmness and inner peace. The location of the monastery covered in snow will give you an unforgettable experience. Inside this amazing monastery, you will notice its beautiful walls which are covered with murals (a piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall) and paintings represent the 14th-century architecture and it?s influenced by Chinese culture with an engaging history behind its emergence, the Key Monastery survived many attacks by the Mongols. Key Monastery is located 14 km from Kaza which is the nearest bus station to the monastery. To reach the Key Monastery, you will have to reach Kaza no matter you are coming from Manali or Shimla. Several buses are plying from both Manali and Shimla to Kaza which takes 10 to 12 hours to reach Kaza. Then from Kaza hire private cabs to reach the monastery and it will take about 40 minutes to climb to the monastery is quite challenging. 

Best time to visit this amazing monastery is from mid-June to September avoid monsoon month of August. During this time of the year, the Himalayas receive heavy rainstorms and slippery roads and landslides. Climate is mostly cold at Key Monastery due to high altitude however it is enjoyable during these months.
